'Highly recommended' SAN FRANCISCO REVIEW OF BOOKS
This is the deeply personal and witty account of growing up as the kid who never fitted in. Transgender blogger Mia Violet reflects on her life and how at 26 she came to finally realise she was 'trans enough' to be transgender, after years of knowing she was different but without the language to understand why.
From bullying, heartache and a botched coming out attempt, through to counselling, Gender Identity Clinics and acceptance, Mia confronts the ins and outs of transitioning, using her charged personal narrative to explore the inaccuracies of trans representation and confront what the media has gotten wrong.
Deeply affecting, and narrated with warmth and honesty, this is an essential read for anyone who has had to fight to be themselves.

Gr 9 Up-A thoughtfully written coming-of-age memoir interspersed with a nuanced discussion of current trans issues in society today. Violet, a UK-based writer and blogger, discusses her own experience coming to terms with being a bisexual transgender woman as well as more universal concerns of the trans community. Chapters shift seamlessly between Violet's personal narrative and broader explanations of the complexities of being trans, tackling: dysphoria, choosing to transition post-puberty, going to therapy, coming out to family and at the workplace, the challenges of starting hormone replacement therapy (HRT) in the UK, and dealing with depictions of trans people in the media. The title serves as a useful thesis for Violet's story: anyone who feels that they might be trans is trans enough, regardless of when they start to figure out their identity and how they choose to deal with it. Recommend to older teens and adults looking for accessible stories of transition. VERDICT A compelling story recommended for purchase where memoirs are popular.-Kelsey Socha, Ventress Memorial Library, Marshfield, MA
