A few may complain that a six-figure income certainly won't buy what it used to; however, given that more than three-quarters of the citizens of this country do not even make half the amount necessary to attain six figures, Benton's is a club many would be happy to join. For more than 20 years, Benton has run an executive development and career counseling firm. She is also the author of "Lions Don't Need to Roar" (1992) and "How to Think like a CEO" (1996), two books that exemplify Benton's confidence-building approach to counseling. She continues here with that same approach, recommending goal-setting motivational techniques. She discusses the various routes to a high-paying job but warns against sacrificing doing what one enjoys. Benton identifies some of the trade-offs one must make, and she offers job-hunting tips for those applying for loftier positions. She concludes with a checklist of 20 steps--all of which are individually achievable, Benton assures--that will end at her club's doorstep.
