Belle Boyd would be a remarkable 19-year-old at any time in history, but she is particularly so at a time when a woman was taught to know her place and remain there. Belle risked her life by spying on the Yankees as they planned an attack on the Confederates. She crossed battle lines to deliver vital information to Stonewall Jackson. Narrator Kate Fleming perfectly captures the intonation and Southern accent of that day, along with the horror of war. A particularly affecting scene is Fleming's recreation of Belle's thoughts as she ponders what to do at a dangerous juncture.
