Gr 3-5-These scattershot volumes of assorted high-interest topics barrage readers with randomly selected facts ("Wingsuit divers fall at speeds of around 60 mph." "Whizzing around makes some people scream or laugh."). The bite-sized text blocks are printed in various sizes and different fonts on or around color photos of, at best, average quality. "Fast Facts" and "FF Top Fact" text boxes are scattered throughout. Relevant websites on nearly every spread add a little extra value to titles that are otherwise unexceptional, ephemeral browsing items.

This volume introduces the art of extreme survival or "staying alive in the wildest places on Earth." These survival skills, known as bushcraft, include finding water, food, fire, and shelter in remote areas. The busy design features compelling photographs and text boxes with additional facts and tips (e.g., the North American compass plant's leaves "always point north-south"). Websites. Glos., ind.
