Gr 3-5-This series offers practical video tutorials. Along with solid tips and advice (don't shoot yourself standing in front of a window), these books emphasize planning. And while scripts and storyboards are the gold standard, inserting an outlining step before recording a video blog is perhaps unrealistic. By contrast, the sections on editing seem oversimplified: It is difficult to sync video with recorded music, as in Music Videos, without a visual representation of the soundtrack or time markers. Appropriately, the photos in these books are a strong plus and show real kids recording each other, setting up equipment, and hamming it up on camera. VERDICT Great photos and resources will help readers direct their filmmaking efforts.
