Grades 2-4 Large, full-color photos of dragon dances and red lanterns dominate the pages of this installment in the Cultural Celebrations series (6 titles), which focuses on the lunar new year, whose celebration originated in China and is now common all over the world. Succinct, clear paragraphs detail the history of the holiday, associated myths and legends, traditional ways to celebrate, and contemporary versions of some of those traditions, such as sending red envelope gifts via an app. Ample white space on the pages and graphic elements breaking up the text should make the paragraphs easy to handle for newly independent readers, and a linked website, including videos, resources, and links to other resources, nicely supports the content. An approachable, robust introduction to the lunar new year with ample visual appeal.(Reprinted with permission of Booklist, copyright 2020, American Library Association.)
